The BEAM web rings newest member...The Bot Shop.

I've just added my site to the Electronic Sites Alliance. They've got some really interesting web pages.

July 25
Well...it looks like two very important resources to the BEAM community, The BEAM Heretics BBS and the BEAM Mailing List Archive, have discontinued services. Maybe someone will step up to fill their shoes...?

Craig has finished his higher brain function boards for his cybug kits. The hunger board monitors the voltage level of the supply battery and alters the behavior accordingly. The predator board consists of two boards, one for the predator with two infrared eyes and one for the poor little prey cybug. The hunger and predator boards add even more function to an already incredible platform.

The Microcore FAQ has been split into two separate files to make reading easier. A tiny bit of new content has been added.

Solarbotics has the very popular SolarSpeeder back in stock and the BP2422 solar cells will be back in stock next week sometime.

If your a newbie to electronics I suggest you go here for a great guide on electronic theory.

Looks like those incredible BGMicro gearmotors are sold out again... Boy those things go fast!

Geoff Clark has announced his new BEAM site. With digital camera prices falling sharply, I hope to see many more pictures of everyones BEAM bots on-line! ;-)

July 8
Dave has added some video clips of his Robot Jurassic Park at Solarbotics.

If you've sent me an e-mail and I didn't respond please don't feel bad. My resources (100 free hours of AOL connection and web-based e-mail) are severely lacking. Things will get back to normal when I get back home. Thanks for your patience.

Lee Golden has sent me pics of his photovore. Check it out.

July 6
Solarbotics has got a new look. Go take a peek.

Terry Newton is starting a CPU based photovore.

July 4
Solarbotics has added some real-video clips of Dave's experimental soon-to-be-kit turbot. I can't view them from this computer but I'm sure Dave did a great job.

Not BEAM specific but interesting non-the-less...

Mondotronics, a major supplier of robot gear to the hobby world, will hold their first annual RoboExpo at the Embassy Suites in Bellevue on Saturday, 22 Aug 1998, in the hotel's Diplomat Room. The Expo runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and will introduce the Lego MindStorms microcontroller brick developed in conjunction with MIT. Other robot items of note include the Cybug series, a variety of robot microcontroller boards, a six-legged walker, and other 'bots. The SRS is invited to set up a table to distribute literature and to demonstrate robots. Mondotronics usually charges for such a table, but has kindly donated our table.
For more details on this event, contact Jason Cooper at jason@mondo.com.
BTW, Mondotronics will be running the RoboExpo in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Boston, at dates throughout August and September. Contact Mondotronics for details.

Snipped from one of Dave's E-mails...
But this leads me into a new line of discussion: What would you think of a _4mm_ diameter pager-style DC motor? Guess what? We'll be stocking some soon - stay tuned for full details, as we're expecting them in by the end of July. They'll be $15/ea.
Perfect for those miniscule photovores.

Coming from sunny hot California...

Greg Mehojah has announced his new web page. Nice photovore...love the name!

Garry a.k.a. Gadagada also has a new page (BEAM pages are sprouting up like weeds these days!). Beautiful craftmanship in the walker.

Although kinda pricey, these motors look great for BEAM applications.
